Should you consider Plastic Surgery?

Breast Augmentation and Tummy Tuck are Not Covered by Health Insurance
According to a recent Fox News story, four US women were arrested for an insurance scam where they billed the Culinary Union’s health insurance program for cosmetic procedures performed in Mexico. Two of the women were from Las Vegas and the other two from California. The four have been charged with numerous offenses including mail and health care fraud.
One of the accused, Rebeca Acosta, allegedly arranged meetings with potential cosmetic surgery patients, telling them the insurance program would cover the expenses of such procedures as breast augmentation and tummy tuck surgery if the patients agreed to pay an upfront fee. The procedures were performed in Mexico and claims were submitted to the health insurance program. According to the article, $4.9 was billed to the company for "out of country emergency procedures."
Except in cases of reconstructive surgery, such as breast reconstruction after mastectomy, breast augmentation is considered elective, and therefore, not covered. Breast Augmentation Most Sought Plastic Surgery in 2008
According to a survey conducted by the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, breast augmentation was the most popular plastic surgical procedure in 2008, with 356,000 procedures performed. Though this is an 11 percent drop from the previous year, breast augmentation still managed to creep ahead of liposuction, which was at the top of the list in 2007. As cosmetic surgery takes a hit due to the county's economic crisis, many men and women who would normally undergo liposuction are finding exercise a less expensive option, causing liposuction dropped 22 percent since last year. Breast augmentation, on the other hand, cannot easily be replaced by diet, exercise or other non-surgical options.

Breast Cancer Detection for Women With Implants
October is breast cancer awareness month. And there are a few extra precautions women with implants should take when screening for breast cancer. Though mammograms are one of the best ways to screen for breast cancer, breast implants can decrease a mammogram's ability to detect breast cancer. Because of this, extra steps should be taken in the breast cancer screening of women with implants.
1) Use a mammography facility experienced in cancer screening for women with breast implants.
2) Request alternate views, such as displacement views where the implant is pushed out of the image for a clearer screening view.
3) Make sure to inform your mammography facility you have breast implants in advance to allow for additional views and a more thorough screening.
